Dare to mix color in your boy's room
Joe's new room called for a unique color palette and striking wallpaper. The energetic five-year-old Joe loves animals, Lego, drawing, and chatting. His parents, Anne and Tijs, wanted to create a space for him where he could be himself: a room that wouldn't dampen his energy, but would create a sense of calm and order. And they succeeded! The secret to this warm, cozy boy's room? First and foremost, of course, the foundation of paint colors and wallpaper!

A children's room with character and tranquility
When designing Joe's boy's room, Elina deliberately chose a mix of two new Day at the Zoo paint colors: the deep green Oliver and the warm red Ladybug . These two powerful shades enhance each other in a surprisingly harmonious way. The rich green of Oliver brings tranquility, depth, and a natural feel to the room, while Ladybug adds warmth, energy, and playfulness. Together, they create an exciting balance: not too busy, not too flat, but full of character. The contrast between these two colors makes Joe's room lively and dynamic, without feeling restless: an ideal balance for a child who is both full of energy and loves to unwind in his own little comfort zone.

Playing with color in a smaller space
Using dark or deep colors in a smaller children's room can be daunting. Yet, Joe's room demonstrates that it can actually work incredibly well. The combination of Oliver and Ladybug creates a cozy atmosphere without making the room feel cramped. Distributing the colors throughout the room, with Oliver occupying a full wall and Ladybug on a shelf and coat rack, creates a dynamic color palette and adds depth.
Dark colors work well in a child's room! A styling tip is to combine dark colors with light materials like wood, rattan, or neutral furniture. Using white or beige accessories also helps create balance.
The color Oliver is a cool color that radiates both tranquility and strength: Perfect for a boy's room with room to dream and build. Ladybug, on the other hand, is a warm shade of red that emphasizes the playful character of the room. Together, they create a pleasant layering of color: not too bright, not too dark, but just right.
Both colors are from our child-friendly paint collection. Our washable wall paints are specially developed for families and contain no harmful substances. The paint is water-based, low-odor, and safe for little hands, who sometimes think the wall is a great place to draw ;) You can easily clean the wall with a cloth without damaging the paint!

Wallpaper as a subtle addition
Alongside the rich paint hues, we also opted for a classic: striped wallpaper! Studio Ditte's Denim on Cream Lintjes wallpaper brings a touch of calm and rhythm to the room with its delicate graphic stripes. It works perfectly with the paint colors and gives the room a timeless look that will evolve with Joe.
