Shades of green in Duke's boy's room

Color inspiration for an atmospheric and cool boy's room

The new room created for Duke in the attic was meant to be a truly cool toddler room. For the "Tuk Make-Over" photoshoot, Elina created a nursery design based on playful pear-shaped wallpaper and the paint colors Drizzle , Elephant , and Hazelwood . The result? A warm, cozy, yet cool boy's room full of color inspiration – perfect for a toddler boy.

The attic of Stijn and Arjanne's house freed up space for two brand-new children's bedrooms. Their sons, James and Duke, are now old enough to move from their upstairs bedrooms to the attic, where they each have their own space. The attic is high and spacious, which calls for clever color choices to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Children's room wallpaper as a starting point

When designing Duke's new room, he was given a voice in the color choices—especially the wallpaper. He was presented with three options and immediately chose the pear-shaped wallpaper in shades of gray. A playful and stylish design that perfectly complements a toddler's room for a boy. The wallpaper serves as a great starting point for the rest of the room's color palette.

Soft gray tones and warm accents

The light gray Drizzle complemented the chosen nursery wallpaper beautifully. This shade was used not only on the slanted walls but also on the Ikea Pax wardrobe and a homemade desk. This creates a sense of calm and unity in the room – essential in a space intended for both play and relaxation.

But color inspiration doesn't stop at just one shade. Elina added the fresh Hazelwood , which adds a cheerful touch to the Ikea Ivar cabinets. As a connecting color between the soft gray and the fresh green, she chose Elephant , a soft green shade applied to the high wall. This color combination makes the room both cool and sweet – perfect for a toddler.

Children's room inspiration: balance between style and functionality

What makes this boy's room so successful is the combination of a well-thought-out color palette and practical elements. By repeating certain colors in multiple places—such as on the furniture and walls—visual calm is created. At the same time, the playful accents and cheerful wallpaper inject a sense of childlike energy. This makes this boy's room beautifully balanced, both now and in the future.

Not only Duke is happy with his room, his mother Arjanne is too: "I especially love the color combinations in Duke's room. It's become a very cozy room that everyone uses with great pleasure!"
