Color inspiration for a timeless girls' nursery
When decorating a nursery, it's not just about choosing beautiful furniture or accessories. Color is the key to creating a cozy atmosphere in a nursery—it determines how a space feels and how cozy a little one's own space can be. In Casper and Jasna's unique home in Hoorn—a building dating back to 1640, brimming with character and history—Elina was commissioned by Tuk Make-Over to transform their daughter Claire's nursery into an oasis of calm, warmth, and refinement. A source of color inspiration for anyone who wants to create a nursery that can grow with their child.
The charming house exudes history and boasts a playful and unique layout. The authentic elements make the interior extra special – and call for color choices that both enhance the charm of the old house and create space for a modern, child-friendly living environment.
When Jasna responded to the call for a Tuk Makeover , Claire's room was still her brother Mitch's old room. A blank canvas with tons of potential. Jasna knew exactly what atmosphere she wanted in the nursery: soft, calm, girly but not too sweet—and above all, timeless. A room that would feel just as comfortable for a toddler and preschooler as it would for a baby.

Paint colours with character and tranquility
Claire's nursery features carefully chosen color combinations that bring warmth, softness, and depth to the space. Two walls were painted Cookie Dough , a warm, creamy beige that adds a subtle glow to the room without feeling heavy. This color creates a beautiful canvas for both light wood furniture and more playful textiles.
For extra contrast and character, the existing open cupboard – a beautiful old built-in cupboard with shelves – was painted in the colour Let's Eat Brownies . This deep brown shade immediately creates ambiance, makes the cabinet a real eye-catcher, and beautifully balances the otherwise soft palette. It clearly demonstrates that you can safely choose a darker color in a child's room, provided you combine it cleverly.

Wallpaper for an atmospheric girl's room
Besides the paint choices, the wallpaper also plays a significant role in the ambiance. The chosen Mrs. Mighetto wallpaper poetically fills one wall with a dreamy, illustrative pattern that immediately captures the imagination. The neutral background and soft colors seamlessly complement the rest of the palette, creating a warm atmosphere. The wallpaper adds a playful touch without becoming overpowering—perfect for a room that should exude tranquility but still needs a magical nursery feel.

Children's room inspiration: balance between warmth and atmosphere
What makes this room so special is the harmonious blend of old and new, of character and functionality. Using paint colors in your child's room can be quite daunting. Jasna experienced this too while executing the plan for Claire's room. The cabinet color, in particular, caused her doubts: "When only the cabinet was painted, I was very unsure about the color. But once the walls were painted and the wall was wallpapered, everything fell into place. The colors really enhance each other. It's become a room that works – in atmosphere, style, and use."
